This update offers new features, patches and improvements, but most of all, an entirely new scoring system.
In response to player request, we have implemented a score calculation which is much clearer and makes it more predictable for the player: it features a better balance between the different categories of scores but also allows gains and losses to always be based on the direct actions of the player. What's more, certain rules regarding score gains have been modified to favor the most strategic decisions.
Summary of New Features for 2023 Edition:
• Game begins on 01/01/2023
• Updates on the heads of state and political alignments in Brazil, Italy, the United Kingdom and Iran.
• Balanced and improved system for calculating scores:
Now, there are no more indirect impacts on the player's score because of opponents' actions on the economy or diplomatic relations. Example: the market share loss of a player due to a contract between two other players does not change the player's score; if an opponent declares war on the player, the latter's score will remain unchanged despite the negative impact of a war on their diplomatic relations.
Other modifications and adjustments:
Popularity: Gains and losses in score regarding the popularity of the head of state have been reduced so that this aspect is better balanced with other means of increasing score.
War: Gains and losses in score regarding wars still depend on conquering territories, but are now calculated on a fixed value according to the type of conquest. You gain a certain amount by capturing a production site and another amount when you capture a city, region, capital, etc.
Diplomacy: Gains and losses in score regarding diplomacy now vary according to the current diplomatic alignment. If relations improve with a country that is currently unfavorable, then the increase in score will be higher than with a country that is already very favorable. Similarly, a loss in diplomatic alignment with a very favorable country will result in a greater decrease in score than with a country that is already unfavorable.
Economy: Gains and losses in score regarding economy have been reduced and there are fewer factors likely to change it so that players have better control over the economic score.
• Addition of a 'Continue' button on the victory screen to continue the game
• Addition of an advanced option in which the game score is calculated solely on the completion of secret objectives.
Added to this, several bugs have been corrected:
• Corrected the inability to cancel an ongoing action or to give another order to a character who is performing another action with 'Repeat this action for all targets of this type' enabled
• Military units ordered to return to base will no longer be stuck if the base that they are attempting to reach is full
• Corrected the problem in updating the display when a character acquires several different objects at the same time
• Characters taken prisoner after the military captures a city now appear inside the city where they have been incarcerated
• Corrected the audio message that says the wrong country when a country at war surrenders
• You are now able to change the status of a UN member in DNA mode
• The psychological profile 'Discreet' is now available in the list of profiles when you want to modify a character's profile in DNA mode
• In DNA mode, right-clicking on a territory now displays the correct country's information
• When modifying the Casus Belli value in DNA mode, it does not revert to the original value after closing the window
• It is once again possible for the Commando to separate from their unit and rejoin it without being blocked
• Other minor bug fixes

The Eversim team is happy to announce the release of 4th Generation Warfare.
The Early Access phase, initiated in 2020, has allowed us to make many improvements with the help of the community players.
For this event, we have renewed the game Steam page with updated description and a new trailer.
Here is the list of the main additions and improvements completed during the Early Acess phase
Main additions:
• Networked game mode
The game works in competitive or collaborative mode. The competing teams are composed of several players who can share the management of one or more countries. For example, in a team, one player can manage the military forces, another the espionage and diplomacy, a third the police forces and national politics. At any time, the players of the team can freely transfer characters to each other.
• Real-time game mode
The addition of this mode has greatly simplified the flow of the characters' actions: each character can do the actions he wants, when he wants, with the only constraint being the duration of the action. At any time, the player can pause or speed up the game time. The real time mode is particularly interesting for solo games, making them more dynamic and intuitive. The turn-based mode remains the most suitable for network play.
• Sandbox mode
To practice and experiment all possible strategies of the game.
• Dynamic player help
This panel helps players to manage urgent events in progress, and to follow each step of their resolution. It also suggests new strategies for the available characters.
• Additional playable characters
It is now possible to control certain characters in the opponent's country from the start. For example, playing a journalist abroad who can stir up protest against his own government.
• Achievements
• More language versions: Simplified Chinese, Italian, Russian. And soon coming Korean.
Main improvements:
• Simplification of some actions, such as the 'Pick up / drop off an object' action, which will no longer consume an action count, nor a turn. Also, it is now possible to send an item 'by post' to a character, even abroad, but with a risk of being intercepted, especially in customs....
• automatic repetition option for some actions: for example, it is now possible to ask a police investigator to analyze several crime scenes in succession with a single action.
• adjustments and corrections of the wargame's operation: in particular, the range of movement of military units has been reduced, as well as their level of attack power to avoid too quick military victories. Also, adjustments to the interception zones of the units have been implemented, allowing a strategy of deployment on the front lines.
• trade contracts have been made more readable and show their changes in case of renegotiation. In addition, the player now has the opportunity to keep his trading partners when they are about to accept a more advantageous trade proposal from a competitor. He can then agree to match new prices or quantities.
• optimization of the AI calculation speed and framerate, switch to 64bits
• visual improvements: new character animations, destruction of buildings or vehicles, special effects or particles, new faces, icon touch-ups
• bug fixes and gameplay adjustments (several hundred points over the entire Early Access period)
The release of the Early Access phase does not mean the end of the improvements or the deepening of the game and new updates will take place regularly. We are also working on the development of several DLCs, including the addition of new specific character classes such as 'Mercenaries', 'Arms Traffickers', 'White and Black Hat Hackers', 'Rebel Groups',... which will be released in the coming months.
4GW takes place in the context of an extremely large open world, which gives us the opportunity to add a lot of new content in the future and make it a unique game.

This new update v0.96 is offering many new features and improvements following the feedback from players in the community.
Here are the main new features and improvements:
• The game now begins in January 2022 , and we have updated the faces of new heads of state in Italy, Germany, and Japan.
• Addition of a new interface display that shows to the player its current urgent affairs, and suggest him actions to do to solve them. This feature will allow the players to keep tracking to the main events or issues. This is very helpful to beginner players, but also to experts as the complexity of the World context become deeper when you play long running games.
This display, also suggest some strategic plans that could be started by the player.
• Characters can now send tangible objects “by postal service” to a distant character. This ease and shorten the management of tactical plans by avoiding trips for characters. Of course if the object has to cross a border, it may be seized by the customs.
• A new option in the New Game menu to set a limit on the number of characters each player can recruit to their team.
• The player now has the opportunity to retain his trading partners when they are about to accept a more advantageous trade proposal from another nation. He can then agree to match new prices or quantities, or risk losing a contract.
• A new advanced option to allow only important messages to be received in game : this allow to minimize the amount of warning messages to read, especially in multiplayer mode.
• A new option in the game to automatically repeat an action (only allowed on certain actions)
• Hacking has been balanced to make remote hacking more difficult but on-site hacking easier.
• Stress gain has been increased when a hacking attempt fails.
• Hacking defense has been increased for production buildings.
• Only one hacking action per server can be performed per turn per hacker.
• It is now easier to get a level 2 hack.
• For a better balance during military conflicts, the moving range of military ground units has been reduced as well as their power level of attack.
• The News will no longer display the power shortages of every country in the world.
• Psychological profile bonuses and penalties are now displayed in several interfaces.
• Holding an award ceremony no longer adds 2 popularity points to the head of state
• New icons for the defense and attack level of military units
• When an action is canceled by right-clicking, it no longer opens the unit's sheet if the cursor was pointed at it
• The interface in the Join an existing game section has been visually improved.
• You can now see a preview of a satellite's scan area when you target to move it.
• Players on the same team in a multiplayer game have a military alliance automatically set at the beginning of the game.
• The new Afghan flag is in game
Added to this, several bugs have been corrected:
• Fixed a lag that occurred in multiplayer games for the game host.
• Fixed the incorrect Syrian leader in sandbox mode.
• Diplomats controlled by clients in multiplayer games are no longer blocked when offering a contract.
• The 'Buy' and 'Sell' buttons are no longer swapped in multiplayer trade contracts.
Maritime units no longer attack multiple times in one turn.
• Adversaries selection is no longer reset when you select a country in the new game menu.
• A server that has been hacked into in a game will no longer be blocked by default if you restart a game without closing the application.
• You can no longer open a region panel multiple times
• Fixed several bugs in the sorting of columns in the 'New Messages' panel.
• Prisoners can no longer hold an election meeting
• You can now see the stats of the military troops you just moved
• Permanent geolocation of a smartphone no longer appears in red even if it is successful
• Fixed several bugs in Multiplayer mode
• Other minor bug fixes
We would like to thank the community of players and in particular the beta testers for their collaboration in improving this game.
We are now planning to leave the Early Access stage soon, and more improvements, fixes or content will be added to the game for this milestone.
In the meantime, we are currently working on the development of several DLCs to add new specific character classes such as “Mercenaries”, “Weapons Trafficker”, “White and Black Hat Hackers”, “Rebels”,... More information will be revealed soon.
4GW offers a huge open world context that gives us the opportunity for adding many new content in the future and making this game unique in its kind.

The new update v0.90 adds new features and improvements following feedback from players in the community and the survey that we sent out last November.
Here are the main features:
Addition of real-time game mode: in this mode, time passes continuously as opposed to defined turns. A character that performs an action is active for the duration of this action,
and then can move on to another action. The player can use the “Pause” and “Fast-Forward” buttons to control the speed of the game at any time.
This mode brings a more life-like dynamic to the game and makes it more intuitive, simplifying rules that limit actions in turn-by-turn mode.
Improvement of the wargames and combat AI: bases for launching intercontinental missiles and anti-aircraft and anti-missile defenses have been added.
Many adjustments and improvements have been made to the AI, notably a greater consistency in the choice of countries to attack, in the frequency of hostile actions,
or even the possibility of using nuclear weapons defensively.
Online cooperative game mode as the same country: it is now possible to play in multi-player mode and on teams as the same country.
Multiple players can allocate roles and characters (and even transfer them during the game). This makes it possible to have online games where player teams compete with one another.
Players on a team can strategically allocate characters by their profession : for example, one player handles commerce and diplomacy, while another manages national security and espionage,
while yet another controls the military, etc. : lots of simultaneous strategies and full-scale plans of attack in a short amount of time.
Addition of new items that give bonuses in accomplishing certain actions: laser sight, rocket auto-guidance or even various capsules that temporarily modify certain character abilities when consumed.
As this update constitutes the 4GW “2021 Edition”, new games will begin in January 2021 with the heads of state of major countries having been updated to reflect the real world.
Finally, the game has new artwork and themes on its Steam page. Praised by players responding to our survey, this artwork highlights the “Strategy and Cyber-War” dimension that is the main draw of the game.

Other new features are currently in development and will be released soon, notably new characters and occupations with specific actions.
